Challenging Repair Case: Electrolux Washing Machine Motor Failure Due to Water Leak
Brand: ElectroluxModel: EIFLS60JIW1
The customer contacted us regarding a common issue – their Electrolux washing machine ceased functioning due to motor failure caused by a water leak. Upon inspection, our technician noticed water accumulation in the machine’s drip tray. The client explained that this had been happening for a while, with a small amount of water collecting during each wash. However, the water would dry up or be manually dried with a towel before the next laundry cycle, and the client had delayed seeking repairs.
Electrolux Washing Machine Motor Failure: Troubleshooting and Repair
Now, the washing machine had completely stopped working. Water was filling up, but the motor wasn’t turning. Our technician opened the rear inspection window and immediately observed severe rust on the motor. There was also a substantial layer of rust throughout the machine’s bottom. This indicated a prolonged water leakage issue.
During diagnostic mode, the technician confirmed voltage reaching the motor, yet the motor remained inert. Further investigation revealed a burnt working coil. The cause was quickly identified when the technician removed the top cover of the washing machine. The drain hose from the pump runs along the left side, secured by a clamp. The clamp had broken. This caused the hose to gradually sag under the weight of water, bending several inches towards the drum.
Above the drum, there is a large rubber tube connecting it to the dispenser. As the drum vibrates during operation, this tube and the drain hose would rub against each other. Over time, this friction wore down the rubber tube, resulting in a breach. At the start of each cycle, water from the dispenser would seep down the left side of the drum, exactly where the motor is located.
This continued for an extended period until the motor coil shorted and burnt out. Consequently, two parts needed replacement: the rubber tube connecting the dispenser to the drum and the drain hose.
