The GE refrigerator is not cooling properly in the freezer and refrigerator compartments
Brand: GEModel: GSH25JSTFSS
We arrived at another service call for a GE refrigerator that was not cooling properly in the freezer and refrigerator compartments. The technician immediately understood the cause as he saw frost buildup on the back panel in the freezer. The defrost system was malfunctioning. Upon removing the cover, the evaporator coil was found to be completely clogged with frost.
This problem arises when the defrost cycle stops working correctly. It can be related to a faulty defrost heating element, defrost thermostat, defrost thermistor, or Control Board. The technician determined that the defrost thermostat was malfunctioning, and voltage was not supplied to the heating element. This caused the frost on the evaporator to never thaw, leading to a cessation of air circulation through the evaporator.
