The Samsung refrigerator’s ice maker is not working
Brand: SamsungModel: RF24J9960S4
If your Samsung refrigerator’s ice maker isn’t working, don’t worry — we know how to fix it. That is the most common issue with Samsung refrigerators, without exaggeration. In most cases, the problem isn’t with the ice maker itself but with the design. No other manufacturer has such an issue!
Samsung Refrigerator Ice Maker: A Long History of Design Flaws
If you look on YouTube, you’ll find tons of videos with this problem and various solutions. We first encountered this problematic design probably about 15 years ago, and for all those years, Samsung has been creating repair kits to address the issue with varying degrees of success.
At first, they tried to modify the air duct channel for the fan inside the ice room. Then they released special Y-clips. Next, they modified the ice makers. Now they offer an expensive repair kit (two versions for the large 9-cube and small 6-cube ice makers) that includes a new ice maker, Y-clips kit, a larger diameter drain tube with a heater, and a new refrigerator control board. Imagine how bad it is if they invest so much in a repair kit! We won’t delve too deeply into the theory of why this happens, but the main problem is the gap between the refrigerator’s wall and the attached ice room with the ice maker. Over time, a gap appears in the ice maker cover. Warm, moist air from the refrigerator section enters the ice room due to a gap. As the air circulates, it begins to condense on the aluminum base of the ice maker, causing it to accumulate heavy frost. Eventually, this frost builds up more and more, leading to the ice maker’s malfunction.
Samsung Ice Maker Not Working: How We Fix It
We typically resolve this problem by correctly sealing this gap using a special silicone provided by Samsung, which has its part number, DA81-05595A. Instead of installing an expensive repair kit that costs around $260, we simply eliminate the gap. As a result, the ice maker resumes ice production.
We’ll Fix Your Appliance Quickly and Correctly
And most importantly, please do not attempt to defrost the ice maker with a heat gun or a hairdryer; you’ll likely heat the plastic to the point where it starts melting. In that case, replacing the ice maker is the only viable solution. Repairing it by melting the ice room housing is not feasible. Turn to us for assistance. Each of our technicians has fixed such ice maker issues numerous times and knows how to correctly and swiftly rectify everything step by step. We provide a warranty for all our work, and our customers are always satisfied!
