Call us for same day professional service!
From burner and ignition problems to oven heating, temperature, convection, and control faults, our technicians repair all major residential range brands, including gas, electric, induction, and dual-fuel ranges.
Same-day range appointments are available during regular service hours, and we use genuine parts for both cooktop-side and oven-side repairs.
We’ve compiled the 10 most common range problems along with our tips to help you avoid them. This valuable information can help you prevent future breakdowns and know when a range repair service is needed to keep your range running smoothly.
On a range, surface-cooking failures may be isolated to one burner or affect several zones. Gas models can have burner-head, spark, valve, harness, or ignition-module faults; electric models can have element, receptacle, switch, or wiring problems; induction ranges can point to coil or power-module faults. The diagnosis should begin with which surface zones are affected and whether the oven side is operating normally.
When a surface burner runs hotter or cooler than commanded, compare the affected zone with the others. Gas models may have blocked ports, cap alignment, valve, or regulator issues, while electric and induction models may involve the switch, element, sensor, or power electronics. A single-zone problem is diagnosed differently from a whole-range power issue.
Repeated sparking on a gas range is often tied to moisture after cleaning, residue around the burner head, an electrode that is dirty or cracked, a switch stuck in the ignite position, or a spark-module fault. Let wet burner parts dry fully and reseat the caps correctly; if clicking continues, the ignition circuit should be tested.
A range may light its display and clock yet still lose the power needed for surface elements or oven heating. On electric and induction ranges, one leg of the 240-volt supply can be missing even though the controls appear alive. Wiring, the terminal block, breaker, relays, and power modules should be checked before heating components are replaced.
Buzzing, humming, rattling, or fan noise can come from an induction power system, cooling fan, convection fan, loose component, or other internal part. Some operating sounds are normal, but a new or unusually loud noise should be checked if it continues.
When the oven portion of a range fails in Bake, first determine whether the fault is limited to the oven or whether other high-power functions are affected. Gas ranges commonly point to ignition or gas-delivery components; electric ranges can involve the bake circuit, relay, sensor input, wiring, or power supply. Dual-fuel models need the oven side diagnosed according to its actual fuel source.
Broil uses a separate high-heat circuit on many ranges, so Bake can still work normally when Broil fails. The fault may be in the broil element or igniter, the gas-delivery path, a relay, wiring, or the control command that energizes that circuit. Testing should confirm whether the broil component is actually receiving the expected power or gas.
Incorrect oven temperature can be caused by a temperature sensor, calibration issue, heating element, igniter, door seal, airflow problem, or electronic control fault. If cooking times and results have changed noticeably, the actual oven temperature should be checked before parts are replaced.
On ranges equipped with convection, the fan may cycle rather than run continuously, so operation should be checked against the selected mode first. If the fan never starts when called for, inspect the fan blade for obstruction, verify motor operation, and then check the wiring and control output that powers the fan.
Self-clean adds door-lock and high-temperature safety requirements that normal baking does not use. A cycle that will not start—or a door that remains locked afterward—can involve the latch motor, lock switch, thermal protection, temperature feedback, wiring, or the control. Do not force the door while the lock system is engaged.
