GE Microwave Door Won’t Close: Safe Checks

If a GE microwave door will not close normally, stop using the appliance. The door and safety interlocks must work correctly. Do not force the door, tape it shut, bypass an interlock, or adjust latch parts.

Safe External Checks

• With the microwave off, look for food or an object blocking the door. Clean only accessible surfaces as described in the model manual.
• Visually check the door, hinges, and surrounding frame for damage or looseness; do not remove a cover or manipulate the latch.
• Check whether the appliance is level and whether anything outside is pressing against the door.

If the door remains loose, damaged, or unable to close securely, keep the microwave out of service and arrange qualified repair. Do not test, adjust, or bypass internal door switches or interlocks.
